Our Story

We founded Urban Ground in 2011 to ensure we could get a great cup of coffee, after many years working in hospitality in London, where great coffee was everywhere. Back then, the specialty scene in Eastbourne was virtually non-existent so intrepid pioneers we became.

The plan was to create a space that was similar to the awesome ones in the capital that were leading the 3rd wave with silky flat whites and delicious artisan sandwiches and cakes. After 6 months of searching for a suitable site, we found a greengrocer who was retiring in Bolton Road, and 8 weeks later we opened the doors on our new venue. Our success and growth have been driven by our dedication to great customer service, exceptional coffee and delicious food served in a relaxed contemporary environment for the community. This has always been the cornerstone of our business plan and we have a wonderful team who believe in our ethos. We are blessed to have regular customers who have supported us from those first few days and even some of the team who started in the first year, are still with us.

Urban Ground baristas prepare every drink to a specific recipe to make sure you get a perfectly crafted coffee every time. We are always working to hone our skills whether we're tasting, tweaking grind settings or trying out new latte art designs.

Our roaster, Square Mile, expertly source, import and roast the best quality green beans from the around the world and have led the way in specialty coffee for over 10 years. Our house espresso, Red Brick, changes several times a year to reflect the global harvest and to complement the season.

Keep an eye out for our free coffee tasting events and guest roasters from around the country.
